Infection prevention and the coronavirus within healthcare organizations

We notice that there may still be some ambiguities regarding infection prevention and the coronavirus within healthcare organizations and therefore our locations. We are happy to explain:

Corona and the general public

On March 10, the government announced that it is immediately no longer necessary for the general public to go into quarantine in the event of a positive corona test. Staying at home with complaints and doing a self-test is no longer necessary. This decision is in line with the 146th advice from the Outbreak Management Team (OMT), the cabinet’s main adviser on corona.

Corona and living with care locations

The COVID-19 treatment advice for long-term care institutions, which also includes Pieter van Foreest’s locations, deviates from the COVID-19 guidelines for the general society.

Why?

Vulnerable residents live in living with care locations. As with other infectious diseases and viruses, there are national medical guidelines for infection prevention. The same applies to the corona virus. The guidelines therefore deviate from the regular guidelines for COVID-19 for the general society.

This means:

  • For residents, the treatment advice remains to test in case of complaints if this test has consequences for the treatment of an individual, and in the context of preventing (further) spread of COVID-19.
  • Testing is carried out if COVID-19 is suspected, if two or more symptoms associated with the coronavirus are present.
  • If the result of a resident is positive and it concerns one resident, then the relevant resident will, if possible, go into isolation in the room until he/she is symptom-free for 24 hours, with a maximum of 5 days. If this is not possible, the location’s infection prevention team will look at alternatives with the smallest possible cohort, for example the department.
  • In the event of an outbreak (multiple infections), all residents have freedom of movement within the ward and residents are allowed to leave the ward without (suspicion of) COVID-19. Activities in large groups with clients outside the own department are avoided.

What if there is an infection/outbreak?

The infection and prevention team at the site follows the guidelines and takes the necessary actions.
