Last Wednesday, March 16, at the Teófilo Dávila Hospital (HTD) in Machala, province of El Oro, medicines and medical supplies arrived to supply the pharmacy of this health home. The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) has invested half a million dollars for this acquisition.

Among the drugs purchased are: hypertensive, antidiabetic, antiallergic, antibiotics for surgery, ophthalmological supplies and anticoagulants. In addition, 20 mg oral solid omeprazole, 250 mg/5 ml oral liquid valproic acid, 0.4 mg oral solid tamsulosin, 100 mg oral solid lamotrigine, oral solid gabapentin, oral solid carbamazepine, oral liquid paracetamol 160 mg/5 ml, among others.

Diego Cabrera, hospital manager, said that the administrative team has developed extensive work days with the objective of purchasing medicine, medical supplies, equipment, among other needs of the institution in order to provide timely and decent services to users.

There are 124 items of medical devices that were purchased through reverse auction, including: sutures, circuits, central lines, surgical packages, chest drainage system, and others. Likewise, medical oxygen was purchased, thus guaranteeing a supply for one year.

This management was carried out thanks to the budget allocation that the National Government made through the Ministry of Public Health (MSP). The HTD manager stressed that they are also receiving medicines from the centralized purchase made by the MSP by zones and, later, they distribute to hospitals and health centers.

During 2022, 187,507 prescriptions were filled at the institutional pharmacy. While January and February 2023, 38,834 prescriptions were dispatched, meeting the needs of users who attend the Teófilo Dávila Hospital.

The MSP guarantees the necessary resources for this and future purchases. It also reminds citizens that the medicines obtained are safe and of quality.
