E4 Traffic Significantly Disrupted by Multiple Sörmland Accidents Following Heavy Snowfall

After lunchtime on the same day, news of accidents on Sörmland’s roads emerged. The police reported that six cars and a truck skidded into the ditch at the E4 in the northern area of Nyköping. Three people sustained minor injuries. There were additional collisions after traffic was diverted. Police spokesman Johnny Gustavsson urges road users to think twice about their trip and maintain a reasonable distance in poor weather conditions. Traffic remained chaotic, with fifteen vehicles, at minimum, involved in accidents or traffic jams on the E4 near Nyköping, according to Pontus Stenberg’s account on SVT. Following that, a bus went into the ditch in Eskilstuna, and a car hit a tree. A truck was found in a ditch on National Highway 57 in Katrineholm. According to the Swedish Transport Administration, trucks are stationary on both road 53 between Husbymalmen to Husbygård S and road 55 between Hagstugan and Björkdalen, influencing traffic significantly.

Since then, traffic has continued to be noisy. Freelance photographer Pontus Stenberg tells SVT that he has so far seen around fifteen vehicles that have been involved in some kind of accident or traffic jam on the E4 near Nyköping.

– In the afternoon, we had several events at E4. Cars in the ditch, collisions and we had a truck lying on its side, says Per Tillander at Södertörn’s rescue service.

Any injuries are unknown.

Messy in several directions

But it is not only E4 that is affected by the snowstorm. Information has been received that a bus has gone into the ditch in Eskilstuna and a car has slid into a tree. In Katrineholm, a truck drove into the ditch on national highway 57.

According to the Swedish Transport Administration, trucks are stationary on both road 53 between Husbymalmen to Husbygård S and road 55 between Hagstugan and Björkdalen. This will have a very large impact on traffic.
