– After the successful ones Screening Days in March, the medical company repeated this in the fight against HCV. Hepatitis C is an insidious disease that often goes unnoticed for a long time and is only discovered at an advanced stage.
It has now been scientifically proven that a timely diagnosis can lead to a complete cure through appropriate drug treatment. This can prevent severe organ damage and/or liver transplants.
“We want to ensure that the spread of HCV in South Tyrol is pushed back,” says General Director Florian Zerzer. “That’s why we’re repeating the Screening Days, also to meet the high demand from the population born between 1969 and 1989. It is important to us to keep pointing out that prevention is the best way to avoid health problems.”
Figures on the tests carried out
Of the 11,666 blood samples taken (11,065 evaluated) were as of March 28, 2023 34 positive, which corresponds to almost 0.31% of the evaluated tests. This number is below the expectations of the experts’ estimates. People who have been exposed to the HCV virus will be contacted to have their blood drawn again to more accurately determine their viral load.
Important information
Free screening for hepatitis C will continue throughout 2023; it is aimed at the age group of all those born between 1969 and 1989, including all temporarily present foreigners.
In order to take part in the Screening Days, a reservation is required, this can be done from Thursday, March 30th, 2023, via the portal SaniBookor by calling the number 100 100 (prefixing your area code).
After clicking on the menu item Screening HCV, all you have to do is enter the data from your own health card. Lists of places and times at which blood samples can be taken will open, including outside of the screening days. It is reminded that the letter of invitation and the consent to data protection must be brought.
It is not possible to have other blood analyzes carried out during the Screening Days.
Anyone who has to undergo a blood test can make a reservation for the blood test on SaniBook and also select the HCV determination. In this case, too, the letter of invitation and the consent to data protection must be brought with you.
