Cunewalde. The players of the Cunewald handball club will have to train in other halls for many more months and possibly years. Since a fire destroyed the roof of the Polenz gym in particular on February 15, 2023, the athletes have had to switch to other sports halls in the area for training and their league games. For example, children’s sports with the ball and exercise school have been taking place in Wilthen ever since, while young people now train in Bautzen. In order to transport the young players there, the club has now started a crowdfunding campaign via the Volksbank Dresden-Bautzen.

By the end of May, the athletes want to collect 20,000 euros via the “Many create more” platform. If the goal is achieved, there is an extra sum on top of that from the bank. “That would give us a basis to buy a van,” says club vice-president Florian Sieber. He expects that a vehicle with at least nine seats will not be available for less than 30,000 euros. The association then wants to raise the rest through further donations. By noon on March 29th, 109 supporters had already found themselves, and together they had donated 18,176 euros. (SZ/bsp)
