Thiruvananthapuram: The state government will call the PG doctors who are on strike tomorrow for discussion. After the PG doctors and the house surgeons went on strike, the government relaxed its stand that there was no discussion. As the strike intensified, patients in medical colleges were left without treatment.

The government is making a similar move again on the thirteenth day of the PG doctors’ strike. The Private Secretary to the Minister of Health held discussions with the striking house surgeons in support of the PG doctors’ strike. The Secretary assured the House Surgeons that the requirements would be communicated to the Minister. PG then called the doctors for a discussion. Patients at the Medical College Hospital struggled to find treatment as house surgeons went on strike in support of PG doctors. Emergency surgeries and scans were canceled. Even those who came from faraway places were in distress.

KGMCTA was absent from OP for two hours at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. The strike affected Kozhikode, Thrissur and Kottayam medical colleges despite the maximum rescheduling of working doctors. Inpatient treatment was also interrupted in some places. The main demands of the strikers are to recruit non-academic resident doctors as required and to increase the stipend.
