Each release by Wes Anderson, one of the most visually recognizable directors in contemporary cinema, ends up being a true journey through color, symmetry, eccentricity and a very unique style that always immediately describes the cinematographic intelligence of one of the filmmakers. More popular. He already demonstrated it with emblematic titles such as The Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom or its last premiere two years ago, The French Time.news.

This time, however, Anderson’s is a real trip: the newly released trailer for Asteroid City, which will be his next film and which comes hand in hand with Universal Studios, shows that it is a story about space, the Martian and cosmic exploration that was also filmed in Chinchón. A film that, according to all the rumors, will premiere next May at the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, the public in the United States will be able to enjoy it from June 16 and from the 23rd it will be in all cinemas.

The synopsis goes back to the Year 1955. When in Asteroid City, a fictitious city in the United States, the anniversary of the impact of a meteorite that fell in the same town around the year 3007 BC is celebrated. For its commemoration, several parents take their sons to the city to participate in an astronomical observation contest, but during their stay several events begin to occur that complicate everything. But the setting, far from being a remote place, is neither more nor less than one of the most famous towns in Madrid.

In barely two minutes of video, a mesmerizing desert landscape is shown, a chromatic conjugation in sublime pastel tones, a comic script that seems to continue with the director’s usual sarcasm and, of course, some of the best-known faces in Hollywood: Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Margot Robbie, Jason Schwartzman, Jeffrey Wright, Bryan Cranston, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Liev Schreiber, Stephen Park, Hope Davis, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt DIllon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe , Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan and Jeff Goldblum will appear in the piece, among others. The one who will not be there this time is Bill Murray, who has participated in all the director’s pieces since Rushmore in 1998 and who had to leave the shoot due to a coronavirus infection, to be replaced by Carell.

The trailer leaves clues to the profile of some characters in the plot. The first scene of Jason Schwartzman phoning Tom Hanks through a booth suggests that he is dealing with a somewhat clueless widowed father and the worried grandfather of his grandchildren. Scarlett Johansson appears as a somewhat demanding glamorous film actress, and the younger actors manage to create a children’s universe that exposes innocence as the perfect place between reality and the afterlife, between Earth and the universe. What the short video demonstrates, at least, is an interesting approach to fiction and an extremely ambitious cast that, more than ever, feeds the public’s expectations and gives clues to what may end up being one of the best bets for the following Oscars. .
