Scientists say a 6th wave of Covid-19 contamination could last from January to March due to the rapid circulation of the Omicron variant

The fifth wave of Covid-19 is not yet over as some are already anticipating the sixth. Martin Hirsch, director general of Public Assistance – Paris Hospitals (AP-HP), explained Monday morning on RTL that the peak of the fifth wave should be reached between Christmas and New Years. But “we have not said a word about the sixth wave, with Omicron, which will come after, in January,” he said.

He deplored the attitude of the population towards exhausted caregivers in hospitals. “We understand very well that we try to preserve the fact that we meet as a family. But on the other hand, it is not worth going to make bamba everywhere ”, he warns. “Those who work at the hospital have the impression that during the first wave, on the aerials, we praised their courage and now we wonder if they are pissers. The support of the population, they must feel it, ”insisted Martin Hirsch.

Until March?

The same goes for the infectious disease specialist Benjamin Davido, who is worried about the contagiousness of the Omicron variant. “The peak will happen, but it won’t happen overnight, it will take time, there may be a small plateau. And the fear that we have, all the doctors, is that the fifth wave will set the stage for a sixth wave since the winter will last until March. And remember that at this same period last year, we suffered the plasters of a second and a third almost consecutive waves, “he explained on BFMTV.

The epidemiologist Antoine Flahault also warned about the speed of distribution of Omicron. “Some news from the front is not good, its spread is dazzling, giving rise to fear of a new wave of very strong magnitude shortly after the 5th wave”, he wrote on Twitter. “Yes, we fear this 6th wave and what we see in the United Kingdom is worrying”, added epidemiologist Pascal Crépey on BFMTV. The United Kingdom and Denmark are facing a strong progression of Omicron, despite a high vaccination rate.
