The Academy of Molières unveiled this Thursday the list of nominees who, on April 24, will perhaps leave with a small golden statuette. The members of the Comédie Française approve of the nominations.

And here we go again for a ceremony. After the Caesars last February, it is the turn of the Molières to unveil the list of nominees who, on April 24, will perhaps receive one of the prestigious golden statuettes carved with the effigy of the father of The Miser a you Imaginary illness. For its 34th edition, the great French theater ceremony will be held at the Théâtre de Paris, under the leadership of Alexis Michalik.

And among the nominees, we note the presence of the rock opera Starmania, revisited since last November, which is competing for both the Molière for the best musical show and that of the best visual and sound creation.

For public theater

The Comédie-Française dominates public theater with 11 nominations for five productions. Three heavyweights, Denis Podalydès (King Lear), Laurent Stocker (L’Avare) or Christian Hecq (Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme) will compete for the coronation of the best actor in the public theatre. As for the actresses, Isabelle Huppert is named for the ninth time as best actress in the public (La Ménagerie de Verre), a category in which she will face Isabelle Carré, Sara Giraudeau and Catherine Hiegel.

Two other members of Molière’s house, Benjamin Lavernhe (La Dame de la mer by Ibsen) and Christophe Montenez (Le Roi Lear) are nominated for supporting roles, and boarder Marina Hands (Le Roi Lear) is nominated as best actress in a supporting role.

It is the Bourgeois Gentilhomme, in the production of the couple Christian Hecq and Valérie Lesort, which has won the most nominations (4), including the Molière for public theatre, staging and sound and visual creation. Finally, in the humor category, Florence Foresti, Laura Felpin, Manu Payet and Stéphane Guillon will compete for the statuette.

For private theater

On the private theater side, it will be the battle between “Glenn, birth of a prodigy” (6 nominations), on the fate of pianist Glenn Gould, “Big Mother” (5 nominations), a journalistic thriller, “The Persian Dolls” ( 4 nominations), a drama set in the midst of the Iranian Revolution and “When the child appears” (4), a comedy by Michel Fau with Catherine Frot nominated for the Molière for best private actress.

Finally, three plays by director Johanna Boyer alone won seven nominations, including five for “I don’t run, I fly!”. Last year, Clotilde Hesme won the Molière for best actress in a public theater show, and Vincent Dedienne won the Molière for humor for the second time.
