The request for parole of the former South African Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius, sentenced for the murder of his partner Reeva Steenkamp, was refused this Friday, March 31, according to the announcement of the lawyer for the family of the victim. A hearing before an ad hoc committee was held in the morning and was to inform the lawyers of the two parties after deliberation. A new request may be considered in one year. Oscar Pistorius was convicted of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp ten years ago. He must in principle serve a 13-year prison sentence. South African law provides that a person convicted of murder can benefit from early release once half of his sentence has elapsed. The parents of Reeva Steenkamp, who was a model, were opposed to her early release, believing that Oscar Pistorius never told the truth.
