The XVII Cholo Armada Memorial-VIII Ssangyong Trophy will take place this weekend in the waters of the Ría de Vigo with the organization of the Real Club Náutico and the sponsorship of Ssangyong.

On Saturday (departure at 2:00 p.m.) and Sunday (11:00 a.m.), a fleet of 25 units from thirteen yacht clubs from Spain and Portugal will compete for victory in the first test in Galicia of the 2023 National Snipe Circuit.

Although the organization expected the registration of one more boat in the last hours of this Friday, the Náutico has already congratulated itself on the quality of the participants. In Vigo will be the current Spanish and Iberian champion, Víctor Pérez (Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa), who revalidated the Spanish-Portuguese title precisely in the Cholo Armada last year. Also on the entry list is one of the two-time champions of this prestigious event, Jaime de Miranda (RCN Coruña), winner in Vigo in 2010 and 2021 and who will now compete with Nuria Lacera as a crew member. The list of excellent sailors seems endless. Martín Bermúdez (RCN Madrid) and the Olympian Ángela Pumariega (RC Astur de Regatas) will seek to repeat their victory in the 2021 Southern European Championship in Vigo. Víctor Pérez (Madrid, 1984) goes with the young Brazilian Luca Rosa Bruggoni as a crew member; with him he just won the 63rd Valencia Trophy last week, fifth of the twenty tests that make up the Spanish circuit.

In the fleet from Vigo, Juan Manuel Estévez stands out, who with Bermúdez de la Puente won the Carlos Pardo Memorial, in Ferrol, in the middle of March. But also the veteran Patricio de Haz (RCN Vigo) or the Porto brothers, Javier (RCN Vigo) with Andrés Jiménez (RCN Rodeira), and Enrique (RCN Vigo), with Santiago Cabello (RCN Vigo).

The Portuguese, Galician, Cantabrian, Mediterranean or central fleet (Real Club Náutico de Madrid) will meet in one of the best regattas in the country.

As is traditional before each edition, José Antonio Portela, president of Náutico Vigués, Manuel Villaverde, president of La Gallega de Vela, and the club’s sailing delegate, Paco Riveras, went to Astilleros Armada to pose with the perpetual trophy of the memorial , accompanied by the director of the shipyard, Miguel Ángel Armada.
