A 17-year-old boy prevented a tragedy in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. The boy was on board a school bus that was driving in the middle of the highway when the driver suddenly lost his life. He took the wheel and avoided a catastrophic situation.
The event occurred last Wednesday in the town of Sertãozinho in the aforementioned state. There, Kaio Eduardo Ferreira realized that something was not right on board the vehicle that was carrying 35 students.
The young man realized that something had happened to the driver and did not hesitate: he took the wheel, controlled the vehicle and managed to stop it to avoid an accident that could have been a tragedy. “I saw that the driver fell to one side and released the steering wheel, I realized that he was unconscious,” the teenager explained to local media.
According to his account, the bus was on the SP-322 highway, in a busy section between the city of Ribeirão Preto and an industrial park. “I thought: if I go to the shoulder it will not be so serious. People were yelling a lot and asking what happened to the driver. Everyone got up, it was very tense, ”he explained to the portal G1.
Ferreira had never driven in his life. He wore a traffic signal and invaded an on-ramp to the freeway. However, he did not collide with other vehicles.
After stopping the march, two comrades opened the emergency exits and the students managed to get out.
As for the driver of the bus, he was identified as Claudemir de Araújo, 51 years old. He had been working as a contractor for the Pontal City Council for less than a year. He suffered a heart attack and died on the spot.
