The President of Belarus surprises: “stop the conflict in Ukraine before further escalation”

Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko, An ally of the Russian president Vladimir Putin, came out today (Friday) with a surprising announcement and called to stop the military conflict in Ukraine and to immediately declare a ceasefire without preconditions. He also warned that if Russia is in danger of collapsing, it will use the “most terrible” weapon, and claimed: “The West is planning to invade Belarus to destroy it.”

In a speech to the nation, Lukashenko called for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine without preconditions and to start talks on a sustainable peace settlement. He warned Ukraine against launching an expected counter-offensive, saying it would make negotiations between Moscow and Kiev impossible.

Lukashenko called: “We need to start talks to resolve the conflict in Ukraine right now, we need to stop the conflict in Ukraine before it escalates further. Let’s declare an unconditional ceasefire.”

He added and warned: “If the Russian leadership sees risks for the collapse of Russia, it will use the “most terrible” weapon.” As you remember, in the last few days Putin claimed that he transferred nuclear weapons to Belarus. On this, Lukashenko said that “the return of nuclear weapons to Belarus is not blackmail but an opportunity to protect Belarus.”

Lukashenko’s surprising words come after Finland’s accession to the NATO alliance was approved and it will become an official member in the coming days. This is after Turkey’s decision to ratify its accession to the alliance. “All 30 NATO allies have now approved the accession protocol,” said the Secretary-General. to NATO Jens Stoltenberg. “Finland will officially join our alliance in the coming days.”
