Chandigarh: In Punjab, Navjot Singh Sidhu, a former cricketer and former president of Punjab Congress, who was sentenced to one year in prison in the murder case in 1988, was released after 10 months in prison. Former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, a native of Punjab, was driving a car in Patiala in 1988 when people in another car told him to give way. In the collision, he killed Gurnam Singh, who was driving the car. A case of murder was registered against Sidhu. In 1999, the trial court acquitted him of murder. But the Punjab High Court sentenced him to three years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh. .The Supreme Court heard the case filed against this and declared Sidhu guilty in the section of injuring an elderly person.

Sidhu was sentenced to one year in jail in May last year in this case which dragged on for 34 years. After that he was serving his sentence in Patiala Jail.

In this case, with a few days remaining for the completion of the sentence, steps were taken for early release. Based on this, Sidhu was released today (April 01) after 10 months in prison. He was welcomed by the Congress volunteers with drumbeats. He met reporters outside the jail and gave an interview.
