It had generated some concern among classicists after his excellent Milan San Remo, but finally Filippo Ganna will not be in the Tour of Flanders. The mighty Italian decided to get off the Belgian Monument to be 100% in the Hell of the North.
After INEOS revealed their line-up for De Ronde with Tom Pidcock at the helm, Ganna told La Gazzetta dello Sport that he had decided to skip Flanders. “I feel good, I’m relaxed, I have only one goal and that is Paris Roubaix,” he said.
“I want to be there in my best condition, so April 9 is the only date that matters,” the 26-year-old continued. Later, he said that his knee is evolving favorably after the fall in Gent Wevelgem, “I did physiotherapy and I’m fine. I trained for a couple of hours with no problems,” he added.
In this way, the Tour of Flanders loses a potential entertainer, the one that had led Mathieu Van der Poel himself to ask him if he would be part of the game on the San Remo podium.
