Meerut: Additional District Judge Court No. 6 Lakhvinder Sood has ordered the acquittal of 39 accused in the 1987 communal riots case at Maliana Holy Chowk under Tippi Nagar police station.
On May 23, 1987, communal riots took place at Maliana Holy Chowk, for which Yakub Ali, son of Nazir Sakna Maliana, filed a case against 93 people. About 63 people were killed and more than 100 were injured in this incident. In the report, the plaintiff had written that while setting fire, all the people gathered together and attacked with the intention of murder. Muslims were targeted and bullets were fired. In which more than 63 people were killed. Crime No. 136 of the year 1987 was registered in this case. In this case, around 40 people have died during the trial and around 39 people are coming up for trial. While the whereabouts of the rest are not known.
In this case, 10 witnesses, including the plaintiff, gave their statements in court. But the prosecution failed to prove the case against the accused. Based on the testimony of the witnesses and the evidence available on file, the court gave benefit of doubt to 39 accused Kailash Bharti, Kalicharan, Sunil, Pradeep, Dharampal, Vikram, Tilakram, Tarachand, Dayachand, Prakash, Ramji Lal, Gharib Das. , Bhakari , Santram , Mahendra , Veer Singh , Rakesh , Jeeta , Kanu , Shashi , Narendra , Kanti , Trilok Chand , Om Prakash , Kanhaiya , Ashok , Roop Chand , Om Prakash , Puran , Naresh Kumar , Rakesh , Kendra Prakash , Satish , Lakmi and Vijender were acquitted.
