“Why Did Chennai Saidappet Court Deny Edappadi Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam’s Petition and Leave Their Ownership Status in Question?”

by time news

The items that were safely taken from the AIADMK office were handed over to the police by O. Panneerselvam’s party, following a complaint lodged with them. Currently, these items are under the control of the Saidapet Court in Chennai. CV Shanmugam, on behalf of AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami, filed a petition in the Saidapet court requesting for the items to be returned. The court had previously ‘sealed’ the AIADMK office and taken away the keys after the July 11 riots, and the High Court had subsequently ordered Edappadi Palaniswami to hand over the items. This order was confirmed by the Supreme Court. However, Vaidhyalingam filed a counter-petition on behalf of O. Panneerselvam, arguing that the items should remain under the control of the Saidapet Court as handing them over to the other side would cause irreparable damage. The case was heard by Justice Mohanampal who dismissed both petitions, stating that the matter of ownership of the items could not be decided at present as final judgment had not been passed in the main case related to AIADMK, general body resolution, and general secretary election, and only interim petitions had been considered thus far.
