The Easter heat has yet to arrive, as the cold lingers on.

by time news

The cold weather persists in many parts of the country, with even sub-zero temperatures at night in some southern regions. However, the daily average temperature in the southeastern parts of the country is gradually rising according to Katarina Andersson, an on-call meteorologist at SMHI. The Southwestern region is also experiencing below-normal temperatures, but is expected to get back to normal at the beginning of the week with a subsequent increase in temperature. The forecast for Easter remains uncertain, but Katarina expects decent weather throughout the country, with a possibility of temperatures up to ten degrees in Götaland. Those planning an Easter ski trip to the mountains can expect sub-zero nights and better weather from Easter Eve onwards, though there may be some sleet or rain at the start of the holiday.

The cold still has a firm grip on large parts of the country, and even in the south there have been sub-zero temperatures at night.

– In the south-eastern parts of the country, the daily average temperature is below or well below normal, but that area is shrinking, says Katarina Andersson, on-call meteorologist at SMHI.

Relief in the West

In the south-west it has also been unusually cold, but there the turnaround comes a little earlier. Götaland gets more normal temperatures already at the beginning of the week – and then more heat comes.

– It will naturally take a few days before we are really there, it will be during the Easter weekend as it looks now. But in the southern parts a little earlier.

The forecast for Easter is still uncertain, but it seems that the weather will be decent throughout the country, says Katarina Andersson.

– It looks like it will be a little milder – in any case reasonably high pressure and sunny on Good Friday. Then maybe it can be a little more varied in the north on Easter Eve.

– It’s not fantastically high temperatures, but you can maybe get up to ten degrees in Götaland.

The mountain weather in Easter

Those who take to the mountains for an Easter on the slopes look set to see better weather from Easter Eve onwards with higher day temperatures and sub-zero nights.

However, Andersson cannot answer whether it provides better or worse conditions for a nice day on the slopes.

– What worries me a bit is that it will be a bit milder and there could possibly be some sleet or rain at the beginning of the Easter weekend. Then it looks like it will be variable cloudiness and not quite as cold, so it depends on whether you like slush or cold snow, she says.
