Karaikal: Police arrested a lorry driver who smuggled liquor from Karaikal to Tamil Nadu.
Karaikal, Vanjur private shipping port is operated by local and intercity lorries.
The police received information that liquor was being smuggled through a foreign truck coming to the port.
Accordingly, Tirupatnam police led by Sub Inspector Suresh conducted a vehicle search the day before yesterday.
The youth who smuggled the liquor bottles was caught and interrogated. It was revealed that he was a lorry driver, Yemumalai, 29, from Tirupattur district and smuggled alcohol from Karaikal to Tamil Nadu.
The police registered a case and arrested him and charged him Rs. 6,500 worth of liquor bottles were seized and handed over to the customs authorities.
