The police authority is Sweden’s largest authority with approximately 35,500 employees and is organized into seven police regions, a number of national departments and an office.

The National Forensic Center (NFC) is a national department within the Swedish Police Agency. Operations are headquartered in Linköping, but are also located in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. The number of employees is a total of approximately 600 people. NFC’s task is, as an impartial expert body, to carry out investigations in criminal cases for the judicial authorities. NFC is also responsible for a uniform and quality-assured forensic process within the entire Police Agency, which includes laboratory activities, forensics and IT forensics. NFC is also responsible for research and development, expert support and training in the forensic field. Today, NFC consists of sections with activities in areas such as information technology, biology, drug analysis, chemistry and technology, as well as an office.

Job description

For the area of ​​competence reverse engineering of integrated circuits, we are now looking for three employees who will work with investigation and analysis of integrated circuits. In cooperation with the broad competence of the colleagues in the group for IT forensic function analysis, your main task will be to develop and apply methodology to support the extraction of information from integrated circuits in order to analyze and manipulate its function.

You will also carry out investigations and analyzes in connection with criminal investigations. The work is carried out in a creative environment with a diversity of expertise in IT and criminal investigations. You will be trained in the forensic field and as an IT forensic scientist you will work with challenging and interesting problem solving where the results of your work contribute to a better society.

Your main tasks include:
* development of methods and solutions for extracting data from integrated circuits found in, for example, mobile phones, computers, embedded systems,
* environmental monitoring and training to maintain a high level of competence in the field,
* to perform reverse engineering of hardware at the silicon level,
* participation in NFC’s process responsibility within IT forensics,
* to train others in the judiciary in your area of ​​expertise.

Qualifications

This is an opportunity for you who have:

  • academic degree at master’s level or equivalent work experience in the semiconductor field,
  • relevant experience from the semiconductor industry, materials science, chemist or similar,
  • very good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written,
  • good knowledge of the English language, both spoken and written.
  • We see it as meritorious if, in addition to the above, you also have:

  • experience in the design of integrated circuits in mainly CMOS technology,
  • experience with or knowledge of the manufacturing process of integrated circuits,
  • experience in simulation and troubleshooting of integrated circuits at netlist level,
  • experience in using instruments such as SEM, FIB and plasma etcher
  • experience with measuring instruments and measuring methods for electronics,
  • experience of working with chemicals,
  • experience or interest in reverse engineering in the relevant field,
  • experience in research and development in related subject areas,
  • PhD in relevant field.
