Challes-les-Eaux mourns its thermal baths: “The activity has dropped with the Covid”

It’s the end of one hundred and forty-nine years of spa history in Challes-les-Eaux. Last Friday, the thermal baths of the Savoyard city closed their doors for good. A heartbreak for the inhabitants and the elected officials, who are struggling to understand this radical decision by the Thermal Chain of the Sun, its owner. “Our town bears the heritage of thermal baths right down to its name. To lose this activity is to draw a line under what makes our identity. It is also a real blow for the local economy, ”worries Josette Rémy, the mayor of Challes-les-Eaux.
