The image of two doctors from the Florentine hospital of Torregalli, Federico and Maria Teresa, wearing diving suits, portrayed during a break on a terrace just outside the Covid ward, was chosen by the curators of the Toronto 2021 Contact photography festival. I know the central Tuscany health agency: the image, taken by the Florentine photographer Clara Vannucci who a year ago entered the Covid department of the Torregalli hospital to tell the physical and emotional scars of a very fragile time, will be exhibited starting tomorrow to other shots in the local galleries participating in the festival which for 25 years in the Canadian city has been promoting at an international level a greater awareness of the most important collective and global issues.
The 2021 edition of the festival will tell in particular how Covid has influenced many countries and the world in general with the hope that taking care of each other is the feeling that Toronto 2021 will be able to bring out. It makes us proud that the moment of relief in which our doctors have been portrayed, working for more than a year on a still difficult front – comments the director of the hospital Simone Naldini – can be shared with the rest of the world.
