According to local media reports, the landslide occurred while a convoy of vehicles was making its way to the Natu La mountain range, which is located in the border region between India and Tibet. According to estimates, the group included about 30 tourists who were trapped under the snow.

Indian army forces were called to the scene and are working to rescue dozens of trapped people from the scene, according to which 22 people have been rescued so far. The 11 injured were transported by helicopter to the local hospital, with at least 8 of them in serious condition.

The Himalayas are considered a popular travel destination for mountain climbers, with thousands of tourists arriving in Sikkim every year. Most travelers usually climb the Kanchenjunga mountain, which is the highest mountain in India and the third highest in the world.
