REPORTAGE/EXPO – It is a journey into the universe of Louis de Funès’ films that the National Automobile Museum of Mulhouse, known as the “Schlumpf Museum” named after its creators, from April 5 to November 5, 2023.

For this exhibition, the teams of the Alsatian museum and those of the Louis de Funès museum in Saint-Raphaël have joined their efforts to find the most emblematic cars of the actor’s cinematographic universe, and each of these vehicles makes us relive scenes of the 7th art that have become cults.

We find with happiness the 2CV of Bourvil in Corniaud, which “will work much less well, necessarily” after it was literally dislocated following a collision with an imposing Rolls Royce Silver Cloud driven by Louis de Funès.

We smile as we immerse ourselves in the saga of the gendarmes of Saint-Tropez, evoked by his famous Méhari and the 2CV of the jovial sister Clothilde, a nun by profession and licensed driver.

The curator of the exhibition and director of the Var museum “Louis de Funès”, Nora Ferreira, even found the real Mustang convertible which appeared in the film and convinced its owner, Patrick Serpagli, manager of the Atelier Mustang, to lend the vehicle for the duration of the exhibition.

By following the common thread of the most famous cars from the films of Louis de Funès, the visitor offers not only a cinematographic journey, but also an immersion in French society after the war and the Trente Glorieuses.

All while taking advantage of the sumptuous setting that hosts the exhibition, this museum created by the Schlumpf brothers, internationally renowned as being nothing less than the most beautiful automobile museum in the world!
