Ranjith said that being queer is not a disease and it is not right for the family to try to treat it as a mental illness.

‘When you think that love is only between a man and a woman, it is not the case, it is the justice of nature. It is not a disease. The family will try to treat it by saying that it is a mental problem. That is not true,’ said Ranjit.

He said that one’s identity is his realization and his film Nachatthiram Nagirgirath portrays such self-realized and self-revealed characters.

“I had thoughts about the transgender community from a young age. I used to talk to them a lot while studying in Fine Arts College. Tried to understand their feelings. I had studied a book by a transgender activist called Living Smile Vidya. Through such reading and experiences I had come to an understanding. I have an idea of ​​how much mental stress they are going through. But that pain cannot even be visualized. Because it goes beyond visualisation,’ added Ranjith.

Nachathiram Nagirgirath is a film about transgender love, gay love and lesbian love. Starring Dushara Vijayan, Sherin Celine Mathew, Kalidas Jayaram and Kalaiyarasan in lead roles, the film released in August 2022 and won both audience and critical acclaim.
