Ikea will transfer its store from Place de la Madeleine to Place d’Italie

by time news

The property company belonging to the same group as Ikea has bought the Italie Deux shopping center.

Ikea opts for the left bank rather than the right bank. The Swedish kit furniture giant will transfer its store from Place de la Madeleine (8th arrondissement) to Place d’Italie, in the 13th arrondissement. The move should take place in the summer of 2024. In Paris, “our assortment […] is particularly appreciated and customers want to have even easier access to our offer. This relocation project corresponds to this ambition“, explains Emma Recco, the director of strategy and development of the activity of Ikea in France.

The distributor assures that it is not dissatisfied with the performance of its first Parisian store, which opened in 2019 and temporarily closed to improve its organization in 2020.We welcome 2 million visitors to this store every year. It was always considered a successassures the director. It is precisely because we are satisfied with it that we are opening a bigger one, in a very dense residential area and premises bought by Ingka centers».

More choice

The real estate company belonging to the same group as Ikea announced yesterday the acquisition of the Italie Deux shopping center, as well as its Italik extension and 18,000 m2 of offices. In all, 85,000m2 of surface area, which arean opportunityfor Ikea to expand the assortment it offers to its customers. “At Italie Deux, we will be able to offer more choices of products to take away immediately. We will also have storage space, which will allow us to sell furniture, which we cannot currently do in Madeleine.“explains the director. The Madeleine store could only offer 2,600 product references, out of the 10,000 offered by Ikea. The Place d’Italie store should cover 5800m2.

The presence of delivery docks will also facilitate the unloading of products. Finally, the installation in a shopping center belonging to Ingka is “consistent with our strategy of owning the walls“, explains Emma Recco. In Paris, the Swede already owns the premises of his store located rue de Rivoli, but was not in place de la Madeleine.

By changing its center of gravity in Paris, Ikea is forced to rethink the offer of the store it has left on the right bank. The Ikea on rue de Rivoli has so far only been devoted to decoration because of its proximity to the Madeleine store, which competes with it. “We will now have a left bank store and a right bank store. Reflections are starting on the positioning of the store on rue de Rivoli so that it best meets the needs of customerss”, explained Emma Recco.
