The police authority is Sweden’s largest authority with approximately 35,500 employees and is organized into seven police regions, a number of national departments and an office.

Police area Norrbotten is Sweden’s largest and northernmost region and is one of the police areas in the North region. The geographical area spans 14 municipalities from Arvidsjaur municipality in the south to Kiruna municipality in the north.

Local police area Östra Norrbotten is part of Norrbotten police area and includes the municipalities of Haparanda, Kalix, Överkalix, Övertorneå and Pajala. Within the local police area, there are intervention and crime prevention activities, investigation groups as well as support and service.

The investigation team consists of a team leader, preliminary investigation leader and investigators, both police officers and civilian investigators. We constantly strive to develop and improve the quality and our quantitative ability. Therefore, we need more people to be able to develop and increase our total investigative capacity.

Job description

As a mass crime investigator, your main task is to investigate commonly occurring crimes such as assault, vandalism, violence, traffic and drug crimes. The role of investigator includes critically evaluating information from several sources, extracting specific facts, weighting and determining the importance of information, drawing conclusions, assessing relationships between variables and summarizing information into a logical whole. You will work independently but still belong to a work team where you sometimes work in teams and where you can exchange experiences and discuss tasks.

Your work will involve interrogating plaintiffs, witnesses and suspects, but also those who are deprived of their liberty. The tasks also include other investigation measures, such as writing seizure protocols and requests for technical examinations. The duties also mean that you can carry out coercive measures, such as collection for interrogations and house searches.

The work involves many internal and external contacts, for example with prosecutors, legal representatives and social services. If necessary, investigative measures are also carried out outside the police station.

The working hours are adapted to the business, usually during the day, but evenings and weekends can also occur.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have:

  • Passed police exam and approved aspirant education
  • Good ability to express yourself in Swedish in speech and writing
  • Experience of case management and/or investigative work
  • B driver’s license
  • Good administrative skills and knowledge of the Office package
  • We see it as meritorious if, in addition to the above, you also have:

  • Experience with interrogation methodology
  • Experience of working with the police criminal investigation process
  • Experience of cooperation with other authorities
  • Experience interpreting and applying laws
  • Ability to express yourself in English and/or other language skills

Personal characteristics
We are looking for you who have a high degree of personal maturity and are confident in yourself. You are responsible and driven with great commitment to investigating crimes of varying nature and have a positive approach. In the assignment, it is required that you have good cooperation skills and can work independently as well as in a team, as you will have close cooperation not least with your work group, but also with several other units within the police. In addition to that, it is required that you have good structure in your work because you will handle large amounts of information in the majority of cases in parallel and quickly switch between them. The fact that you are flexible is another prerequisite for being able to cope with the tasks in the best way. You will act in a changing environment that makes great demands on the ability to change perspectives, re-prioritization and quick focus change.
