All the leading companies of the world have started paying more attention to cost reduction. Tech companies are blocking everything from a 2nd round of layoffs to employee benefits, citing the ongoing economic slowdown as the reason tech companies have already laid off thousands of employees.
Meanwhile, the world’s largest e-commerce giant Amazon.com Inc has already announced plans to cut around 27,000 jobs in 2 announcements, including around 100 from its unprofitable video-game division.
Gaming Section: Employees at Prime Gaming, Game Growth, and the company’s San Diego studio will lose their jobs as part of the layoffs. Not only this, Microsoft and Netflix are expected to put on hold, if not freeze, all of their business plans to compete with them.
Now this is the target: “Our staff and resources are being aligned to support Amazon’s focus on content,” Christoph Hartmann, Amazon’s vice president of games, said in a memo to employees on Tuesday. The layoffs are happening across all divisions of the Amazon company.
Gaming Section: The gaming division is a major part of the Amazon layoffs. And we will continue to invest in new initiatives during his tenure, and the number of employees in this division will continue to grow as our projects progress,” said Christoph Hartmann.
The Twitch Company: Amazon’s main problem right now is its inability to generate revenue in its gaming segment, including its entertainment show Crown Channel, on the Twitch streaming service. Twitch recently laid off around 400 employees.
New World Game Introduction: Recently Amazon has developed a new game called New World and introduced it to people. When it was launched in September 2021, the number of players of this game was high. But it has continued to lose customers, so the current layoffs don’t seem to affect the New World game division.
Indian Trade: US giant Amazon has invested heavily in improving its logistics platform in India, especially domestic delivery services, as well as overseas exports. Amazon is planning to launch its own air cargo division Prime Air in India. Amazon operates its Prime Air service only in the US and Europe.
27,000 layoffs: Amazon, the world’s leading e-commerce platform, has laid off around 27,000 employees in just three months. While 18,000 people were laid off in the first phase in January, 9,000 people are currently being laid off in the second phase. This is the first time in Amazon’s company history that such a layoff has taken place.
