Retail sales in the Czech Republic fell again in February 2023, for the tenth consecutive month, but at a slower pace than in January. This was shown on Wednesday by the data of the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ).

According to the statistics, retail sales in the neighboring country fell 6.4 percent year-on-year in February 2023, following a revised 6.8 percent decline in the previous month. Economists expected a worse result, namely an acceleration of the rate of their decline in February to seven percent. The February decrease in sales was the mildest since September of last year.

The statistics also showed that the decline in non-food sales slowed in February (to -7.1 percent from -8.3 percent in January), but at the same time fuel sales grew more slowly (by 0.3 percent versus 1.2 percent). and the rate of decline in food, beverage and tobacco sales accelerated (to -7.6 percent from -6.9 percent).

In a month-on-month comparison and seasonally adjusted, retail sales in the Czech Republic fell by 0.4 percent in February, reversing a revised increase of 0.8 percent in January.
