Half of the Catalans are from Barça and only 3% from Espanyol or Girona

BarcelonaThis Wednesday, Barça and Madrid will play each other for access to the Copa del Rey men’s soccer final. A game that will surely be followed all over the world, but especially in Catalonia: these are precisely the two teams with the most fans. Almost half of the Catalans (49%) are from Barça, and Madrid, a long way off, takes second place on the list with 8%.

It is not strange to see the whites in the second position in Catalonia, because they have historically been there whenever this question has been asked in the polls. Madrid, therefore, surpasses the other Catalan teams in the First Division: Espanyol is third on the list with only 2% and has to touch Girona – with whom it faced last weekend in the League -, which it is the favorite for 1% of Catalans, and that the demarcation of Girona concentrates 10% of the total population of Catalonia.

The Blaugrana, then, who lead with an iron hand the men’s and women’s football leagues, take a good part of the sympathy of the Catalan fans, but the data of the people who do not feel the colors of any team is not at all negligible: 35% answered the survey that neither Barça, nor Madrid, nor football.

However, for those who claim to follow this sport, Catalans’ Barcelonianism is transversal: three out of four people who like football belong to Barça. In the past, when this question was asked, a team from outside Catalonia used to sneak in among the answers: Betis. Today it is no longer part of the teams most followed by Catalans and, apart from Real Madrid, only Athletic Club de Bilbao and Atlético de Madrid stand out.

The lions have 1.38% of followers between the ages of 35 and 49, and in the case of the mattresses they exceed 1% in three age groups: the youngest (18-24 years old), the 35- 49 and also that of the older ones of 64.
