The passenger, whose details have not been released, experienced a medical emergency about three hours after the Jet2 flight took off from Tenerife to Manchester, last Sunday.

“A few hours into the flight, a man who was with the woman helped her go to the bathroom. She seemed to be in quite a difficult situation and was in distress,” one of the passengers told a local news site.

“The flight attendants talked to them, and at one point they laid the woman down near the emergency doors of the plane, where there is a large gap. They asked her how much she was in pain, and relayed the information back to the captain,” he said.

At some point, the woman’s condition began to deteriorate. “Then the plane made a dramatic right turn, and it was clear that something had changed and that we had to land immediately,” the passenger told the news. “Quite a few people were upset by what was happening.”

The plane made an emergency landing at Newquay Airport in Cornwall, where medical teams were waiting for them. “They quickly got to the plane and took the woman out with Alnoka.” After some time, the doctors had to pronounce her dead.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said that the woman is a resident of Cheshire in her 60s. “Corbia has been informed. The death is not being investigated as a suspicious incident,” he said.
