Since the launch of Tesla in Israel somewhere in 2021, it has indeed devoured the electric vehicle market in Israel, but many have been impatiently waiting for more than a year precisely for the Model Y, Tesla’s very popular crossover.

But at the time of launch, the car was priced at NIS 331,532, which kept it away from many, and only after a while did the prices drop to NIS 270,000. But now, a new model of the Model Y is being launched in Israel, and it will cost you tens of thousands of shekels less – with some differences that you should pay attention to.

Travel a little less

The Model Y is Tesla’s crossover vehicle, which at first glance may look a bit like the Model 3 you see at every intersection in Israel these days, but in reality it is taller and wider. So far, the model has been sold in Israel in a configuration of two engines (4×4), in the Long Range version at a price of 278,046 NIS, but also in the Performance version at a price of 308,864 NIS.

The new version of the Model Y that is about to arrive in Israel is a rear-wheel drive version, which will start at a price of NIS 224,199 – about NIS 50,000 less than the dual-wheel drive version. But to pay less, you also have to make some concessions along the way: the new version (which is actually a version sold in some parts of the world before) comes with a single electric motor, a smaller battery and 19-inch wheels, which leads to an estimated driving range of 455 km (in standard WLTP), compared to 533-514 km in the dual drive versions. The 0 to 100 enthusiasts will have to settle for “only” 6.9 seconds, almost 2 seconds more compared to the double drive version; And compared to the performance version of the Model Y, the rear-wheel drive version is “only” able to reach 217 km/h, instead of 250 km/h.

The rest of Tesla’s equipment remains as it was between all versions: glass roof, 15-inch touch screen, double wireless charger, identical sound system (13 speakers, a single subwoofer and 2 amplifiers), front seats with the possibility of heating and electric adjustment, and more. The vehicle is manufactured at the Tesla factory in Germany and not in China.

The bad news: you’ll need some patience

Although Tesla is at peak production, the Model Y in the rear-wheel drive version will reach the first Israeli customers only in the summer months (July-September). However, the launch of the new model of the Model Y finally moves the Y away from the NIS 300,000 range, and begins to bring it closer to the competitors marketed in Israel, who will not be able to remain for a long time without a response.
