On the eve of the opening of the exhibition devoted to Ramses II at La Villette, 145,000 tickets have already been sold.

More than 145,000 tickets have already been sold for the event exhibition dedicated to Ramses II before its opening this Friday in Paris, more than for Tutankhamun which had welcomed a total of 1.4 million visitors in 2019, organizers announced Thursday.

“We sold over 145,000 tickets, which is a higher number of pre-sales than those for Tutankhamun (around 120,000).”

This really shows the enthusiasm of the public in anticipation, especially when we announced the presence of the coffin of Ramses II only here in Paris”, declared Thursday John Norman, president of the World Heritage Exhibitions, which organizes it, during a press conference.

The only country in Europe to host it

The exhibition is held until September 6 at the Grande Halle de la Villette. After the United States and before Australia, France is the only country in Europe to welcome it and, above all, the only one to show the painted wooden coffin of Ramses II (without the mummy), thanks to a cooperation unprecedented between France and Egypt.

“In Egypt, we have 250 foreign (archaeological) missions from 25 countries. The most numerous, 54, are made up of French people,” said Mostafa Waziri, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt, during the press conference. . The exhibition presents more than 180 original pieces (statues, jewelry…), some of which have never been taken out of Egypt, during a dive into more than three thousand years of history.
