Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation is coming up with various offers and schemes to increase its passenger numbers. Tamil Nadu Transport Department has announced that 50 percent discount will be given to passengers who currently book tickets on that line and travel more than five times in a month.

While free bus pass was given to students, recently a scheme was introduced to provide free bus pass for women in local buses. This has increased the number of female passengers in city buses. Despite the introduction of AC buses with sleeper facilities in the buses going to outlying areas, the number of passengers has not increased. So the department has introduced new schemes for transport.

A fare concession scheme has been introduced to encourage passengers to book and travel on buses called State Express Transport Corporation or SETC. According to it, passengers who book more than five trips in a month will get 50% discount on ticket fare from their 6th trip onwards.

And this rule applies to all Tamil Nadu Government Rapid Transport Corporation buses. But this offer is applicable only for travelers who book online or directly. This offer is not applicable for large passengers on boarding.

Not only that, a scheme has also been introduced to encourage women passengers who are reluctant to travel alone in SETC buses. As earlier 2 seats were reserved for differently abled persons in each bus, from now on all SETC buses will be reserved 4 seats separately for women.

This reservation is available on the online booking site up to 24 hours prior to the departure of the particular bus. You can register by then. Till then the platform will not allow other gender to book these seats. Also no separate documents will be asked for this. ID card alone is sufficient.

The transport department has announced that priority will be given to women self-help groups in running canteens at bus depots to encourage women not only in travel but also in transport sector jobs. This will be followed in the new contracts.

Apart from this, in order to encourage youth entrepreneurship, booking of parcel services in buses will be allowed on monthly payment of Rs 6,000. Apart from that, the transport department has announced that a total of 16 crore rupees has been allocated for renovation of some bus depots, construction of air-conditioned rest rooms and modernization.
