the uruguayan Gabriel Calderon It is currently one of the spearheads of Ibero-American dramaturgy. In Spain, works such as ‘Historia de un jabalí o algo de Ricardo’ or ‘Ana contra la muerte’ have been seen in recent years, which show the vigor and depth of her writing. She also has ‘Uz, the people’, which Natalia Menendez directs in the Spanish Ships, a true depth charge disguised as a crazy comedy.

Fanaticism -in this case religious- and blind and irrational beliefs are the hidden iceberg of this terrifying show (because of what it tells and how it does it) in which the voice of God commands Grace, a pious family mother who lives in the quiet town of Uz, who kills one of his two children. With these wickers Calderón weaves a very black comedy, which Natalia Menéndez has turned into a show -always dynamic- allegedly excessive, grotesque and caricatural, mercilessly funnysometimes even gore, essential for the public to swallow the bitter pill that is offered to them.

Nuria Mencia offers his Grace the mix of naiveté and cruelty that his character demands – which practically sustains the role – while the always admirable Pepe Viyuela draws his wacky, prickly, and incredible Jack in almost fluorescent colors. Of the rest of the cast, the ‘comic couple’ made up of Ruth Núñez and Rocío Calvo stands out.
