Opposition parties meet at Sonia Gandhi’s house – What was discussed?

Leaders of the Opposition met at the official residence of Congress President Sonia Gandhi yesterday (14.12.2021) amidst a tense political situation as the winter session of the Indian Parliament, the forthcoming five state assembly elections and preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections began.

The meeting was allegedly organized by the Congress to plan the next steps of the opposition and to make Mamata realize that they are the main opposition party. Sanjay Rawat, DMK MP D.R. Balu was accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir National Convention party leader Farooq Abdullah and CBI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury. Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjuna Karge are also attending the meeting.

Informed sources said the meeting discussed ways to forge state-wise unity to confront the BJP. Sources also said that at the meeting, opposition parties asked Sarath Pawar to speak to Venkaiah Naidu on the issue of suspension of 12 state MPs.

In addition, informed sources said that the Trinamool Congress was constantly discussing attacking the Congress party and that Sarabjit Pawar had explained his position in saying that there was no such thing as a Mamata United Progressive Alliance at the time, and informed sources said that such opposition meetings should be held more frequently.

It is noteworthy that the Trinamool Congress was not invited to attend the meeting.
