Pallipalayam: A new office for Pallipalayam Municipality is being constructed at a cost of Rs.3.50 crore.
Pallipalayam was a part of Town Panchayat till 2003. A third-tier municipality since 2004, it has been upgraded to a second-tier municipality since 2011. Currently, there are 21 wards. Day by day population, residential and industrial development is increasing.
The present Municipal Office was built when it was still a Town Panchayat. Even after being upgraded to a municipality, the municipality is functioning in the same building. An additional building was also constructed. However, there is a lack of space. In this case, steps have been taken to build a new office for the municipality.
Regarding this, Pallipalayam Municipality Chairman Selvaraj told reporters:
A new building will be constructed for Pallipalayam Municipal Office in Marketpet area at a cost of Rs.3.50 crore. The work will start soon. An electric cemetery is being set up on the banks of the river Nevhamdi at a cost of Rs. 1.80 crores under the project of our own. This year, 98 percent tax has been collected in Pallipalayam Municipality.
