The company will supply several hundred units of the second generation LiDAR sensor to a manufacturer of commercial vehicles as part of advanced contacts for a serial production contract. The company has agreements with Volkswagen and BMW, among others

Innoviz reported that it signed an agreement to supply several hundred units of its second generation LiDAR sensor, InnovizTwo, to a manufacturer of commercial vehicles. Inviz stated that the shipment is part of advanced contacts between the company and the car manufacturer regarding a serial production contract for one of the vehicle fleets of that manufacturer.

Inviz currently has four production agreements in the automotive industry, with Volkswagen and BMW, with an electric vehicle manufacturer from Asia and another agreement with a system supplier (Tier-1) for autonomous vehicles. The company believes that the current contacts will mature into a fifth agreement.

When launched in mid-2021, Innoviz said that the InnovizTwo provides 30 times better performance than the company’s first-generation sensor, InnovizPro, and that its production cost is about 70% lower compared to the price of InnovizPro. The sensor operates at a wavelength of 905nm and is intended for use in normal and autonomous vehicles.

It provides scanning at angles of 125×40 degrees, producing 8,000 lines per second with a resolution of 0.07×0.05 degrees for ranges of up to 300 meters. The sensor complies with the ASIL-B safety standard and appears together with the InnovizAPP software package, which receives the sensor data and analyzes it for the purpose of identifying and classifying objects in the vehicle’s environment.
