Government declaration by Olaf Scholz: Just don’t arouse enthusiasm

by time news

As far as speeches and government statements are concerned, we citizens are not spoiled by long-time Chancellor Angela Merkel. Your speeches in the German Bundestag are certainly not remembered as rhetorical fireworks. The first government declaration by Olaf Scholz showed that we do not have to make major changes in this regard.

The decade of progress that the new government wants to usher in begins with an at times annoying detailed list of its measures. Even before his speech, Olaf Scholz looked as if he couldn’t wait to get to the desk. But this was followed by an hour and a half very factual tour of the coalition agreement – from the headline to the small print. Everything is neatly ticked off and always provided with the assurance: We can do it, the crisis – whatever – will be overcome. A clear case: the diamond is back. Reliable. Thorough. Boring.

In view of the tasks and changes that lie ahead of this country, that is unfortunately not enough. Scholz himself speaks of the fact that in the twenties of this century a renovation must succeed that has not happened since the industrial revolution. It will affect the lives of all of us. Shouldn’t the head of government try a little more to get the spark across and yes, a little enthusiasm for what will now be achieved? A little empathy wouldn’t have been wrong either – maybe for the younger ones, whose life has been on standby for two years and who will be particularly affected by the upcoming changes. But unfortunately you are at the wrong address with the brittle hamburger. So let’s stick strictly to the facts for the next four years. That will certainly be exciting too.
