How is the first hotel in the world printed in 3D with futuristic rooms

by time news

A few years ago, 3D printing was just a hobby for hobbyists who used it mainly to create small parts or prototypes. However, as technology has advanced, today it is possible print larger and more complex objects. One of the greatest feats in 3D printing was building houses using this technology.

The fruits of this transformation can be seen at the famous nomad glamping hotel located in Marfa, Texas, known as the cosmic. The complex offers its guests a unique and different experience from that of a traditional hotel, since it works as a luxury camp that blends art and nature in an environment designed with additional amenities to ensure a first-rate stay.

However, it seems that his innovative proposal was not enough. They recently launched a new joint initiative between Danish architecture firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), ICON, a company specializing in advanced construction technologies and large-scale 3D printing, and hospitality expert Liz Lambert.

El Cosmico will be developed in 250,000 square meters of large-scale 3D printed structures.BIG / ICON

The project, which until now had been characterized by its combination of adventure and relaxation in a space of 85,000 square meters, will become a 250,000 square meter community with large-scale 3D printed structures, including domes, arches, vaults and parabolic shapes. While the structures are made possible by advances in construction techniques, it also incorporates some of the oldest principles of construction based on raw earth.

The objective is to improve the experience of guests, who will be able to enjoy a shared pool, spa and common facilities. In addition, housing and hospitality services will be built using this advanced technology. With organic curves and domes amid the vast desert landscapethe houses and structures will continue the tradition of the cosmic to merge art, nature and hospitality.

The constructions will have circular geometries and a color palette born from the local terroir.

The Sunday Homes collection of two, three and four bedroomsdesigned by BIG, will offer expansive views of the mountains and swing between 111 and 205 square meters. The homes will blend contemporary Texan aesthetics with the minimalist nature and culture, art and landscape of Marfa. organic shapes, circular geometries and a color palette born from the local terroir will make it look like the cosmic seems literally born from the place where it rises.

The project construction will begin in 2024although on March 15 they presented the construction of a first pavilion for outdoor performances printed in 3D, which was presented at the Long Center for the Performing Artsnot Austin.
