Thiruvananthapuram: The PG Doctors Strike will continue in the state. According to the protesters, discussions with the health minister did not clarify the demands. The decision of the medical PG students is to continue the current strike. Doctors are adamant that the requirements should be clarified in writing.

Health Minister Veena George has said that a committee will be appointed to look into the workload of PG doctors. The health minister had said that he would check whether the job arrangement was in accordance with the residency manual. The minister said that all the demands of the PGs were accepted. The Health Minister was speaking to the media after a high-level discussion.

The minister told the media that steps have been taken to increase the stipend. The file has been sent to the Finance Department. He also discussed the matter with the Finance Minister. The minister said it could be increased when the state’s finances improve. The minister said that the protesters have been informed about this.

The main demand of the strikers is to reduce the workload. The Health Minister has assured that a committee will be appointed for this. The minister added that 307 non-academic residency doctors have already been appointed and the protesters have been informed of the limitation in appointing more senior resident doctors.

The PG Doctor provided excellent service during the Kovid period. The government has responded favorably to the demands. Ordinary people arriving at hospitals should not have difficulty. The government has done all it can. The minister said that steps will be taken to ensure that the functioning of medical colleges is not disrupted.

With the return of house surgeons to duty and the arrival of temporarily appointed junior resident doctors, there is no such thing as a paralysis of service in medical colleges. The OP is prolonging time and postponing non-emergency treatments for the time being. The number of patients coming to medical colleges across the state has also come down due to the strike.

PG doctors are not ready to back down from the three key demands of stipend increase, appointment of more non-resident doctors and implementation of pay revision.
