Dance, Sergio Bernal flamenco star on tour in Italy

by time news

It is the heir to the purest tradition of Andalusian flamenco. Class, charisma, charm and elegance, pure virtuosity, breathtaking choreographic aesthetics. Sergio Bernal returns to Italy with his company and a group of live musicians (on tour from 13 April, first stage at the Teatro Duse in Bologna), the dancer who has managed to revisit the ancient gypsy dance with very personal and contemporary contributions, overwhelming fashions, without however betraying the history and tradition of a spectacular ‘baile’ mirror, once upon a time, of an ethnic minority, which has risen to universal value.

On stage with the well-known bailaor also Miriam Mandoza, José Manuel Benitez. They will perform in a mosaic of classical and contemporary quotations, of sophisticatedly modern pieces or revisited from the great romantic tradition such as the solo of the ‘Swan’, freely reinterpreted from the ‘Death of the Swan’ by Saint-Saens. Also on the program is ‘El ultima encuentro’ on the notes of ‘Hable con ella’ by Alberto Iglesias, soundtrack of the film of the same name by Pedro Almodóvar, signed by Ricardo Cue. The last meeting, (in dance) between two lovers, a last round of waltz, with a flamenco scent, before saying goodbye, forever. A tribute to Fellini’s ‘Ginger and Fred’.

“Sergio Bernal embodies strength and beauty – explained Daniele Cipriani, who discovered him very young in Spain and made him known in our country – He represents at the same time the primordial vigor of Iberian dance, in search of contact with the earth, married with the aesthetic refinement of classical dance, about to take flight, always stretched, as if by magic, upwards”.

Sergio Bernal is often in Italy on the strength of his collaboration with Roberto Capucci, the great Italian master, who had never created for dance. For Bernal he designed dresses of extraordinary splendor and ‘grandeur’ inspired by the warm and sensual colors of Spain. Furthermore, when he is passing through Rome, he does not fail to visit his friend Laura Bosetti Tonatto, a famous ‘nose’ (he also created a perfume for Queen Elizabeth, which was never marketed). He imagined ‘Sergio’ a fragrance inspired by the Madrid bailaor. Musk and amber, warm and enveloping notes, combined with the fresh notes of orange blossom, mandarin and jasmine.

After the Duse in Bologna, the Sergio Bernal Dance Company will be at the Teatro Verdi in Gorizia (14 April), at the Teatro Verdi in Pordenone (15) at the Teatro Mario del Monaco in Treviso (18). Summer stages, the Nervi/Genoa Festival (July 29), the Versiliana Festival (August 1), the city of Catona at the Reggio Calabria Theater (August 3). Sergio Bernal will also be among the protagonists of ‘Duets and Solos’ at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa (April 16) and in the cast of the international dance gala Les Étoiles at the Ravenna Festival (June 20).
