The reporters Niklas Liebetrau and Anja Reich, who work for the Berliner Zeitung, have been nominated for the renowned Stern Prize 2023. In the “Local” category, a story was honored and shortlisted that critically examines the practices of a Berlin judge who tends to decide court cases to the detriment of Berlin tenants. The title of the story is: “Why does this judge rule against tenants in Berlin so often?” The Reinke case”. The piece was published in the Berliner Zeitung and online on December 3, 2022.
In the “Local” category, the “Series: Abortion” by Maxi Beigang, Miray Caliskan, Antonia Groß and Elena Matera was also nominated for the Stern Prize, which was also published in the Berliner Zeitung. In various articles, the series of topics deals with the injustices affecting women who decide to end their pregnancy.

The Stern Prize is the former Henri Nannen Prize, one of the most renowned German awards in journalism. The Nannen Prize was renamed the Stern Prize shortly before it was awarded in the summer of 2022, because the late journalist Henri Nannen is said to have been involved in the acts of violence of the Nazi dictatorship. The Nannen family denies the allegations. A research group at the Institute for Contemporary History in Munich examines the past of Henri Nannen and the early years of Stern with particular meticulousness. The Nannen Prize will continue to be called the Star Prize until the results are finalized.
