New CCTVs for security at Cliffhouse; 12.93 lakh was spent

Thiruvananthapuram: 12.93 lakh rupees have been spent to install CCTV at Cliffhouse, according to the RTI document. The reply was received in an application filed under the Right to Information Act regarding the electronics works carried out in Cliff House and ministerial buildings till October last year. The reply was received from the Public Works Department Electronics Rural Sub-Division.

In the RTI document, it is informed that electronic devices have been installed and repaired in six ministerial buildings including Cliff House. 12,93,957 out of commission for installation of CCTV in Cliffhouse. Apart from this, 2.13 lakhs have been spent on setting up the EPABX system. The document also says that Rs 13,502 is the cost for setting up the LAN access point.

The CCTV cameras in Cliffhouse have also been controversial in the case of gold smuggling. Swapna Suresh had said that he had gone to Cliff House many times and he would understand if he checked the CCTV footage there.

In connection with the K Rail issue, Yuva Morcha workers had protested by throwing stones at the Cliffhouse premises in the face of the police. The incident raised questions about Cliffhouse’s security breach. Following this, new CCTVs were installed. Newly installed EPABX system and LAN access point in the official residences of Ministers Pournami and Prashanthi. 18,850 was spent on repairing the malfunction of the EPABX system at Kavadiyar House.
