In children’s circles, first steps for a happy life

Childcare centers in Cuba have played a transcendental role in the training of boys and girls for more than six decades. These institutions are responsible for preparing the little ones for their school stage and they do so on the basis of independence, sociability and their own creativity.

In Güira de Melena, three Children’s Circles and two kindergartens integrate early childhood education, where they work to achieve the maximum comprehensive development possible in each girl and boy from birth to six years of age.

In these institutions, as explained by Idalmis Núñez Cruz, a comprehensive Early Childhood methodologist, knowledge, habits and skills are developed based on five dimensions of development. They are governed by a life schedule that contemplates programmed and independent activities, games and processes to satisfy the basic needs of children.

In this municipality, a feature distinguishes the Nené Traviesa kindergarten: preschool is also taught there as an optional modality for children who have completed their first years of life in this center, according to its director Grisel Nazco Cardelle.

Although it seems paradoxical, there the noises translate into peace, the kind that inspires to see children laughing that is mixed with the morning crying of someone in adaptation, the races of the most restless around the room and the general happiness that characterizes our children. They are sites wrapped in love, which move us the desire to return to childhood.

These institutions are responsible for creating life habits, especially since they include the family in the education of the minor. The change is always noticeable, even more so when they later arrive at the schools: those who attended kindergartens or even the so-called private care, which are also governed by the rules of the circles, show different behaviors.

These children are more communicative, they grasp school content more quickly and manage to socialize more easily, because they get used to living with different characters and practice resilience.

Güireños circles today have a general enrollment of 390 children, although the real demand exceeds this figure and the municipality requires greater capacity, especially for working mothers or those with special situations.

In this sense, there is no specific answer because it depends on many organizational elements and the creation of new options, but it is an element to take into account in work centers with a high number of women, as it favors their full incorporation into working life and It can also affect the birth rate. Applause then for the few centers that already achieve their children’s houses in the provinces.

Being one of the noblest works of the Revolution, day care centers still have a lot to improve, but they also have many merits to be praised, the main one: opening the doors to the outside world for our boys and girls, with discipline and education.
