Italy decrees a state of migratory emergency for six months

The measure will be implemented throughout the national territory due to the exceptional increase in the flow of migrants through the Mediterranean routes

The Italian Government has decreed thenational migratory state of emergency during the next six months, after the disembarkation on Italian shores of more than 3,000 people in the last three days, several local media reported this Tuesday.

The measure, proposed by the Minister of Civil Protection and Maritime Policies, Nello Musumeci, and with an initial funding of five million euros, will be implemented throughout the national territory due to the exceptional increase in the flow of migrants through of the Mediterranean routes.

The statement comes after a conversation held this Monday between Musumeci and the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, and which was confirmed to EFE by Interior sources.
