IMSS Bienestar has rehabilitated 30 operating rooms in 24 hospitals

The general director of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Zoé Robledo, reported that one year after the implementation of the Health Plan IMSS Wellness Three objectives have been prioritized. The strengthening of the second level of care, the increase in the supply of medicines and the rehabilitation of 30 operating rooms in 24 hospitals in the country, some of them without operating for 14 years.

Increase the average number of interventions

The official explained that with the start-up of the operating rooms it is intended achieve a productivity of 3.4 surgeries per day and reach four procedures per dayas in the ordinary regime.

He explained that in these operating rooms no surgeries were performed for problems in the processing of permits, operating licenses, maintenance, lack of equipment and rehabilitation works of facilities.

Results obtained in the country

Detailed the average productivity of surgeries in the 11 states that operate under the model IMSS Wellness. In the case of Nayarit, there are 13 hospitals with 23 operating rooms. Before the entry of the model, 722 surgeries were performed, and in the first quarter of 2023, 1,503 were reached, which indicates that it went from 1.05 to 2.18 daily surgeries, with an investment of 328.8 million pesos in the second level and supply of medicines. of 99 percent.

Robledo reported that in Tlaxcala there are 20 operating rooms in 10 hospitals. Before initiating the federalization strategy, 683 surgeries were performed and today with the IMSS Wellness in the first quarter of 2023, 1,366 were carried out; productivity went from 1.14 to 2.28 daily surgeries per operating room. The investment in conservation for the second level of care is 265 million pesos and the number of filled prescriptions reached 96 percent.

In Colima there are five hospitals with 11 operating rooms. The number of surgeries went from 713 to 1,094 in the first quarter of 2023. Productivity increased from 2.16 to 3.31 daily surgeries. The investment in the second level is 181 million pesos, while the supply of medicines reached 94 percent.

In the case of Baja California Sur, the IMSS Wellness operates in six hospitals with 11 operating rooms. The number of surgeries increased from 766 to 952 in the first quarter of the year. Productivity was located at 2.88 daily surgeries per operating room, the investment in the second level is 59.1 million pesos and the supply of medicines is at 99 percent.

In Sonora there are 17 hospitals with 33 operating rooms; the number of surgeries went from 1,786 to 2,164 in this first quarter, with which productivity reached 2.19 daily surgeries. The investment in the second level is 608.8 million pesos and the supply of prescriptions reached 98 percent.

He also explained that in Sinaloa they work in 23 hospitals with 31 operating rooms. Before the IMSS Wellness Plan, 1,551 surgeries were performed in the entity and in the first quarter of the year the figure increased to 1,848. The productivity of operating rooms went from 1.67 to 1.99 and the investment in the second level of care is 1,65 million pesos; the number of filled prescriptions reports 96 percent.

For the state of Campeche, he said, work is done in 11 hospitals, where 298 surgeries were performed and today with IMSS Bienestar, 470 are performed. The productivity of the operating rooms in the entity went from 1.10 to 1.74 daily surgeries, while the investment in the second level is 134.4 million pesos. The supply of medicines is 98 percent.

The general director of the IMSS said that in Guerrero there is a presence in 42 hospitals with 55 operating rooms, where 3,126 surgeries were performed and in the first quarter of the year 4,134 were reported. Productivity went from 2.22 to 2.93 daily procedures, while the investment in the second level is 417.6 million pesos and the supply of prescriptions is 86 percent.

He indicated that in Veracruz the IMSS Wellness Plan operates in 37 hospitals with 35 operating rooms. With the federalization of health services in the entity, today 2,152 surgeries are performed. Productivity went from 1.76 to 2.05 daily surgical interventions. The investment in the second level is 515.5 million pesos and the supply of medicines is reported at 80 percent.

He said that in Michoacán there is a presence in 22 hospitals with 45 operating rooms, in which 1,620 surgeries were performed; In the first quarter of 2023, 2,569 were performed. The productivity of the operating rooms went from 1.23 to 1.95 surgeries per day. The investment in the second level of care is 530.9 million pesos and the supply of prescriptions stands at 96 percent.

He highlighted that in Morelos they work in four hospitals with six operating rooms, where 310 surgeries were performed; In the first quarter of 2023, 372 were performed. Productivity went from 1.72 to 2.06 daily surgeries per operating room. The investment in the second level is 22.5 million pesos. The supply of medicines is reported at 88 percent.

Zoé Robledo affirmed that these results have been achieved thanks to different strategies such as the hiring of new specialists, the supply of supplies, healing material, investment and rehabilitation of spaces to increase the number of surgical procedures in favor of the population without social security.
