“One of the measures that we have implemented is precisely that the change of mortgage from variable to fixed rate is free during 2023is a measure that is already in force since January 1 and during this year,” Calviño said when asked about the Podemos initiative.
He added that “citizens have to know” that throughout this year “the change from a variable mortgage to a fixed one is free, in the same way that it is the early amortization of mortgages”.
Calviño explained that the Ministry of Economy plans to meet in June with representatives of the financial sector and consumer associations of financial institutions, as well as groups that represent older people in order to monitor how these measures already in force are being applied. .
Measures that, he added, at the time were received “positively” by the associations of financial clients.
He also pointed out that the Government wants to “continue advancing” with the creation of the authority for the defense of financial clients that will allow “strengthen the safety net and the protection network for Spanish citizens in the financial sphere”.
