The European Volleyball Association announced tonight (Wednesday) to Hapoel Kfar Saba that a decision has been made that the two games of the men’s volleyball challenge team against Miyaba from Slovakia will take place in a neutral country, and determined the location of the games in Sofia, Bulgaria on 21-22 / 12. The Israeli club was disappointed with the announcement and hope that the sports authorities will succeed in changing the decree.

It has long been agreed between the clubs that the games between Hapoel Kfar Saba and Miyaba will be held in Israel on 8-9 / 12. Due to the suspension of tourists entering Israel due to the outbreak of the Omicron virus, the Slovaks appealed to the International Volleyball Association and asked to postpone the games, although the Israeli government allowed athletes to enter games in all sports. According to the Slovaks, Israel has declared itself a “red state”, and if the games are held in Israel according to their corona laws they will have to stay in isolation for eight days upon their return to Slovakia.

In Kfar Saba, they agreed to postpone the games to 21-22 / 12, as long as they are held in Israel, but the Slovaks insisted that the games be held in a neutral country, since it is not possible to host games in Slovakia these days.

The chairman of Hapoel Kfar Saba, Gary Abramovich, and the general manager, Yaakov Hershko, have worked extensively in the last two weeks on all levels to convince the Slovaks that the situation in Israel allows for games, but have encountered a wall in the form. The International Volleyball Association has also failed to help solve the problem, although it is aware that life in Israel is conducted according to the rules of the green label.

General Manager of the Hapoel Volleyball Club Jacob HershkoHe said: “It is not reasonable to force us to play in a neutral foreign country, when the problem is with the laws in Slovakia, and not with us. Last week we hosted a team from Romania, and everything was fine. International football and basketball games are held in Israel. “Unfortunately, the international association is not helping us, and we are badly hurt by the situation. It would hurt the spirit of the sport if the games were held in a neutral country. I am no longer talking about the high and unnecessary financial expense, including flights and hotels, that I do not know how to handle.”
