In Chennai, the sea level rose to 10-15 meters at midnight yesterday in areas including Marina and Pattinapakkam. The sea receded for about half an hour. Thus the sand surface was more exposed.
People who had come to the beach at midnight were shocked to see the sea recede. About half an hour later the sea returned to normal. This has caused great panic among the public in the area.
A strong earthquake was felt in Indonesia for the last 2 days. The epicenter was reported below the Pacific Ocean floor, however; no tsunami alert was issued. As a result, the Indian Tsunami Center said there was no risk of flooding in India.
